The cruise control system is integrated with the engine management system and uses fuel priority to automatically maintain the set vehicle speed. Once enabled, the cruise control system can increase vehicle speed without using the accelerator pedal. The cruise control system includes the following components:
- Suspend/resume switch
- Switch "+" ("set/accelerate") And "-" ("slowdown")
- Movable contact group
- Cruise control warning light (on the instrument panel)
The driver operates the cruise control system using only the switches on the steering wheel. When the cruise control ECM is on (engine control module) adjusts PWM signals (pulse width modulation) , passed to the fuel injectors to regulate the amount of fuel needed to maintain the set speed.
Control switches
Item name | Spare part number | Description |
1 | - | Suspend/resume switch |
2 | - | Accel/Decel Switches (+/-) |
3 | - | Time break switches for adaptive cruise control (if any) |
4 | - | Movable contact group |
5 | - | Steering column wiper control switch |
The cruise control control switches are located on the LH (left) side of the steering wheel. The switches are wired directly to the movable contact group. All cruise control system switches are push rocker switches. The minimum set speed is 30 km/h. Cruise control is automatically suspended if the vehicle speed drops below 24 km/h.
The cruise control system switches are resistive stack type switches. The cruise control system has three switches, two of which are for adaptive cruise control (if available). Switches change the resistance of the voltage signal sent to the ECM (engine control module) . The switches are supplied with a 5 V reference voltage, which varies depending on how the switches are pressed.
Suspend/resume switch
The pause/resume switch controls the cruise control mode selection. When the ignition key is in position II, pressing the suspend switch activates the suspend mode, which temporarily disables the cruise control system, but retains the previously set speed in the ECM memory.
Resume switch
If the cruise control system was paused by pressing the suspend switch or pressing the brake pedal, pressing the resume switch will restore the previously set speed.
Accel/Decel Switches (+/-)
If the cruise control system is on, pressing the switch "+" sets the current vehicle speed as the speed supported by the cruise control system. Each subsequent short press of the switch increases the set travel speed by 1 km/h. If the switch is held down, the travel speed increases continuously until the switch is released. Each time you briefly press the switch "-" the set speed is reduced by 1 km/h. If the switch is held down, the travel speed will decrease continuously until the switch is released.
