NOTE: When starting with a cold engine, during the first 1.5 km, do not depress the accelerator pedal more than halfway until the vehicle reaches a speed of at least 25 km/h. While the engine is warm, never run the engine at high RPM or at full throttle.
With the ignition off, check:
- The parking brake is on.
- Manual transmission: The gear selector is in the neutral position.
- Automatic transmission: Selector lever in 'P' position (parking)
- Transfer case: 'H' selected (high range)
- All instrument readings are zero.
With the ignition on, check:
- All control lamps, which should light up when the ignition is switched on, turn on.
- The reading of the engine temperature gauge corresponds to the engine temperature.
- The indication of the fuel gauge corresponds to the level of fuel in the tank.
- Operation of the parking brake warning lamp and brake fluid level warning lamp.
