WARNING: If your vehicle has new drum/disc brake pads, do not test the brake system, which will apply significant braking force until the pads are worn in. New pad friction linings will not be effective until the pads are run in all over. Please note that if new parking brake pads or new rear brake discs are installed, the "running in", referred to in section 206-05 - "Removal and installation of the parking brake".
Test the brakes at various driving speeds within the operating range, with both light and heavy brake application. Watch for any jerking, pulling or dragging, and any excessive delay in applying or releasing the brakes.
Allow the vehicle to coast and also watch for pulls to one side or signs of sticking brakes.
After stopping the car (but not immediately after emergency braking) carefully check the temperature of the brakes. If one of the brake discs has a noticeably higher temperature than the others, this may indicate that the pads of this brake mechanism are seizing.
Upon completion of the test, check the vehicle:
- Check for oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, air, and fuel leaks.
- Check for abnormal temperatures on any moving parts or components, such as wheel hubs, gearboxes, etc., which may indicate excessive torque or lack of lubricants.
