Review
The video system networked a range of networks and vehicle modules to provide a complete entertainment package for passengers.
Due to the complexity of the system, there are a number of different methods used to diagnose the system, as the networks used include the medium speed CAN bus, the MOST system (data transmission system for media systems) and other methods depending on the system.
Information about the video system and its operation can be found in the appropriate section of the workshop manual.
Information about networks and their operation can be found in the section "Network communication" manuals for service stations.
Inspection and verification
1. Make sure the customer's complaint is valid.
2. Visually inspect for obvious mechanical and electrical problems.
Mechanical factors | Electrical Factors |
3. If there is an obvious cause for the problem you identified or the customer described, fix it before proceeding with the next steps (if possible).
4. Use an approved diagnostic system or scan tool (tester), to retrieve all DTCs before referring to the symptom table or DTC index (DTC).
Since DTCs are stored in more than one module, a complete vehicle data readout is recommended.
Clear all DTCs after troubleshooting.
Symptom table
Symptom | Possible reasons | Actions |
DVD player not working | Check the DVD circuits for a short circuit causing the fuse to blow and make any necessary repairs. Refer to the electrical manual. Check the power supply to the screens and make any necessary repairs. Refer to the electrical manual. Wait at least an hour for the condensation to dry.
Remote control erratic | Check and replace batteries if necessary. Check and, if necessary, clean the receiver and transmitter.
Image missing | The display screen is set to the wrong mode | Use the switch on the back of the handset to select the correct mode. |
Playback does not start | Make sure the disc is loaded correctly. Make sure the disc format is compatible. Cancel «parental lock» or check the disk rating. Press SET for at least 2 seconds to turn off the setup menu.
Image is fuzzy or noisy | The image may be slightly distorted in modes «rewind» forward or backward. Check the condition and charge level of the vehicle battery.
Image "freezes" | Disc scratched | Load an undamaged disc. |
NO MAG is displayed | Magazine not loaded in DVD changer | Download the store. |
NO DISC lights up | Upload the disc to the store. Clean up the disk if necessary.
REGIONAL CODE VIOLATION lights up | The loaded disc does not match the region code number | Load the disc that matches the region code number. |
VIDEO SIGNAL IS NOT CORRECT lights up | NTSC disc loaded in PAL system, or vice versa | Load the correct format disc. |
HI TEMP is displayed | The system protection circuit has been activated because it has detected a high temperature | Turn off the power on the unit (OFF), and then turn it on again. If the display does not clear, leave the power off until the temperature decreases and turn the power back on (ON). |
DTC index
NOTE: Universal Scan Tools cannot read the listed codes or can only read 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool with the first 5 digits of the listed 7 digit code to identify the problem (the last 2 digits give additional information read by the diagnostic system approved by the manufacturer).
