Review
The audio system networks a number of networks and vehicle modules to provide a complete entertainment package for passengers.
Due to the complexity of the system, there are a number of different methods used to diagnose the system, since the networks used include the CAN bus (controller area network) and MOST system (data transmission system for media systems).
For a detailed description of the design and operation of the audio system, refer to the appropriate section in the workshop manual. For information on network diagnostics, see "Network communication" in the workshop manual.
Inspection and verification
1. Make sure the customer's complaint is valid.
2. Visually inspect for obvious mechanical and electrical problems.
Mechanical factors | Electrical Factors |
3. If there is an obvious cause for the problem you identified or the customer described, fix it before proceeding with the next steps (if possible).
4. Use an approved diagnostic system or scan tool (tester), to retrieve all DTCs before referring to the Symptom Table DTC Index (DTC).
Since DTCs are stored in more than one module, a complete vehicle data readout is recommended.
Clear all DTCs after troubleshooting.
DTC index
NOTE: Universal Scan Tools cannot read the listed codes or can only read 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool with the first 5 digits of the listed 7 digit code to identify the problem (the last 2 digits give additional information read by the diagnostic system approved by the manufacturer).

SDARS Diagnostics (digital satellite broadcasting)
The following information is intended to assist in diagnosing basic satellite radio system problems.
DTCs are the primary source of information for diagnosing non-basic faults.
There are five conditions that can affect available channels:
A: No signal available
The signal does not reach the module.
The car must be in a direct line of communication with the satellite, i.e. in an open area and without any obstacles between the car and the companion.
NOTE: If the vehicle is located outside of America, this is the only possible condition.
B: More than 6 months have passed without a subscription
There is a 6-month free broadcast period on channel 184 to test the system.
After this period, no channels can be received and an unsubscribed message is displayed.
C: Less than 6 months have passed without a subscription
The car can only receive channel 184, other channels will display an unsubscribed message.
D: Signed up for a family package
All channels are listened to, but adult channels will be blocked and messages about unsubscribing will be displayed for these channels.
E: Subscribed to the full package
All channels are available except for some paid channels. In this situation, for such channels, a message about the absence of a subscription will be displayed.
System check
Tune in to channel 184 (this is typically the default channel for all presets).
Select the direct channel input function by pressing the key "#".
This operation will send the audio signal to the speakers when the C, D or E condition is present.
If state B is present, you will need to subscribe.
1. Are other systems affected?
The most common symptom is audio loss from other infotainment equipment; a good indicator of MOST problems is the lack of display switching from the home screen.
If other systems are affected, check the electrical circuits of the infotainment equipment for loose or damaged electrical connectors or other damage. Refer to the electrical manual.
2. If only the satellite radio system is affected, remove the DTCs from the module using the prescribed diagnostic system or scanner.
Refer to the DTC index above.
Screen indication | Symptom | Possible reasons | Notes/Actions |
No signal or Searching for a signal | No channels available | Antenna connections | Check for DTCs Check connections from module to antenna and from antenna to wiring harness. Repair if necessary. |
No signal or Searching for a signal | No audio signal | MOST connection | Check for DTCs Check the operation of other audio system components. Check connections going to other MOST elements. |
No subscription | No channels available | Free period expired | Perform the above checks. |
