Steering column lock and ignition switch housing (Discovery 3)

Removing

ATTENTION: If it is necessary to remove the lock cylinder together with the switch from the ignition lock, make sure that the assembly shaft DOES NOT TURN. Failure to do so will result in the lock not working properly and will require replacement of the assembly.

1. To gain access, fully extend the steering column.

2. Remove the steering wheel. For more information refer to Steering wheel (57.61.01)

3. Remove the upper casing of the steering column. Release 6 clips.



4. Remove the lower casing of a steering column.

• Remove 3 Torx screws.
• Release the steering column adjustment lever.

5. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the steering column multifunction switches.




6. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the coil spring.



7. Remove the steering column switch assembly. Remove 4 Torx bolts.



8. Remove passive coil.

• Disconnect the electrical connector.
• Release 2 clips.

9. Remove the ignition switch assembly.

• Remove and discard 2 shear bolts.
• Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: Do not further disassemble if the part is removed only for access.

Remove the ignition lock cylinder.

• Turn the ignition key to position I.
• Insert a pin with a diameter not exceeding 2mm into the hole in the ignition lock cylinder body to press the plunger and release the ignition lock cylinder.

11. Remove the ignition switch. Click on 2 clips.

Installation

1. Install the ignition switch. Fasten the clamps.


2. Install the ignition lock cylinder.

• Turn the ignition key to position I.
• Find the guides and press the plunger.

3. Install passive coil.

• Fasten the clamps.
• Connect the electrical connector.

4. Install the ignition switch assembly.

• Tighten the shear bolts until the bolt heads shear off.
• Connect the electrical connector.

5. Install the steering column switch assembly. Tighten the Torx bolts (tightening torque 3 Nm).

6. Connect the coil spring and multifunction switch electrical connectors.

7. Install the steering column covers.

8. Install the steering wheel. For more information refer to Steering wheel (57.61.01)
