The parking brake switch allows the driver to apply and disengage the parking brake. This switch is located on the center console next to the gear lever.
Grooves along the edges of the parking brake switch engage with the top panel of the center console, and a screw secures the parking brake switch. To connect to the vehicle's electrical wiring, use the electrical connector at the rear of the switch. The brake symbol on the switch illuminates when the vehicle's exterior lights are on.
The parking brake switch has three states:
- Request to engage when the parking brake switch handle is pulled up.
- Request to turn off when the parking brake switch knob is pressed down.
- Idling when the parking brake switch knob is in the center, or rest, position.
Microswitches built into the parking brake switch are actuated by the parking brake switch handle. The parking brake control module checks the microswitch circuits to determine the state of the parking brake switch.
