Selector shaft retainers — removal and installation (Defender 2007+)

Removing

1. Remove the gearbox.

CAUTION: Make sure the surface around the element is clean.

Collect the special tool.

CAUTION: Make sure the surface around the element is clean.

Using the special tools, remove the shift bar retainer.

Installation

1.

NOTE: If the transmission is stuck while in gear, carefully move the selector mechanism using a suitable flat-bladed screwdriver.

Make sure all the shift fork pins are aligned as shown and the shift clutch can move freely.



2.

CAUTION: Make sure the surface around the element is clean.

NOTE: If necessary, a new shift bar retainer must be installed flush with the transmission housing.

Using a suitable hammer and soft drift, install the shift bar retainer.



3. Install the gearbox.
