Battery — removal and installation (Defender 2007+)

Removing

1. Remove the left front seat cushion.

2. Release the clip and remove the battery access cover.

WARNING: When removing a battery or before performing any electrical repairs or maintenance, be sure to disconnect the ground wire first. If the power wire is removed but the ground wire is not disconnected, accidental contact with a wrench or any grounded metal object will cause severe sparking and may result in personal injury. After installing the battery, connect the positive cable first.

Disconnect both battery wires, starting with the ground wire.

4. Loosen the nuts and move the 'J' bolt battery clamp aside.

5. Remove the battery.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Coat the battery clips and terminals with petroleum jelly before installation.

Install the battery and secure it with the clip. Make sure the 'J' bolts are properly routed under the mounting brackets at the base of the battery shelf.

2. Connect the battery wires, starting with the positive wire.

3. Install the battery cover.

4. Install the seat cushion.
