Removing
WARNING: The parking brake works on the transmission, not on the rear wheels. The parking brake may not be able to hold a jacked up vehicle if the procedure below is not followed. If one front and one rear wheel is raised, it is not possible to apply force to hold or brake the vehicle. Wheels MUST be chocked.
1. Apply the parking brake, engage a gear in the main gearbox and select low range in the transfer case.
2. Loosen 5 wheel nuts.
3. Using a suitable rolling jack, raise the vehicle and place jack stands under the axles.
For more information, see the chapter: Using the jack (100-02 Jacking and lifting the car on a lift, Description and principle of operation).
4. Turn away nuts of fastening of a wheel and carefully remove a wheel from hairpins.
Installation
1. Make sure that the studs and fastening nuts are clean.
2. Alloy Wheels: Coat the wheel hub mating surface with a suitable anti-seize compound to minimize the possibility of wheel sticking to the hub.
3. Install the wheel being careful not to damage the stud threads. (Don't apply oil).
4. Install the wheel nuts and hand tighten at least three full turns before using any wrench.
5. Tighten the nuts to the maximum with a suitable wrench.
6. Lower the vehicle and finally tighten the nuts to the specified torque in the sequence shown.
- 1. Wheels with alloy wheels - 130 Nm
- 2. Wheels with steel rims - 100 Nm
- 3. High performance wheels - 170 Nm
