Description
Welded steel rear axle housing contains a differential (with bevel gears with helical curved teeth), which is set offset to the right of the vehicle centerline. The differential, using semi-axles and fully floating hubs, which are mounted on tapered roller bearings, drives the rear wheels.
Lubrication
The differential is oil lubricated and the hub bearings are grease lubricated.
The hub bearings are equipped with internal and external seals. Outer seals prevent differential oil from mixing with hub grease, while inner seals prevent dirt from entering the hub.
Ventilation
The hub bearings are ventilated through external oil seals and a differential vent line that terminates at a high level.
